On the Girl Scouts

So I got linked to this “Honest Girl Scouts” page through a HuffPo* article. To summarize the article, the Girl Scouts’ high command agreed to let in a mtf transgender child because, to quote, ”If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.”(HuffPo via GLAAD). In my opinion, GSUSA is absolutely in the right. But that’s not the point of this post.

These so-called “Honest Girl Scouts” are outraged that GSUSA promotes non-abstinence only sex education, colludes with Planned Parenthood, and (shocker) sells over priced cookies, in addition to treating LGBTQ people normally and advocating for their rights! Honestly, the whole site made me actually respect the Girl Scouts of America more than ever before. 

So I, for one, will be munching on Thin Mints** for more than the OM NOM NOM factor this year.

Also, a note in bold, italics, and capitals because I want to make it clear: PROPER SEX EDUCATION IS THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT PREGNANCY AND THE SPREAD OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES; IT WILL ONLY WORK IF INITIATED BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY. YOU CANNOT TAKE BACK AN STD.
